Get to Know Our Staff
It’s hard to believe that Rose’s first day in our practice was back in 1990, yet it’s our patients and staff who keep her eager to come to work each day. When you’re in the office, you’ll often hear her the familiar sound of her laughter from down the hall as she catches up with people during their semi-annual cleanings.
Born and raised in Portland, Rose earned her RDH degree from Portland Community College after graduating from Marycrest High School. She has been married to her husband Ken for more than 30 years, and they have two children, Paul and Cori. Away from work, Rose enjoys spending time with her family in Palm Desert and Sunriver. As an avid golfer and athlete, you can often catch her on the golf course or at the local gym swimming and doing aerobics.
Sharon has been with our practice since 1995 after moving up to Oregon with her husband, Houston, the previous year. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and earned her bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University and her RDH from Foothill Community College.
Sharon and Houston have spent countless hours fostering puppies for the Oregon Humane Society. They now share their home with two “foster failures,” Mr. Higgins and Gizmo, along with a former stray cat named Molly Muffy. Also an avid traveler, Sharon’s favorite memories include holding a koala in Australia, being chased out of a river by a hippo in Africa, kissing a manatee in Mexico and cruising the Nile in Egypt.
Sara is new to our practice as of 2015, but she fit in quickly thanks to her calm, collected demeanor and warm smile. She is especially passionate about providing comfortable and effective dental care while building lasting relationships with her patients.
Sara was born and raised in Salem, Oregon, and received her bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University (Go Beavs!). She also attended Mt. Hood Community College where she earned her associate’s degree in dental hygiene. Sara’s favorite pastimes include spending time with her husband, daughter and their English bulldog, Barney.
You may know her as “The X-Ray Lady,” but for nearly three decades Brenda has been an integral part of our staff. She considers herself extremely lucky to have found a career that she loves and continues to find challenging, yet satisfying, after 45 years.
Brenda was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. After 21 years, she decided to trade the Texas heat for the beautiful slopes of the Utah Valley, which afforded her the opportunity to enjoy camping, hiking and skiing. Southern California came next, where her only child Marcus was born, before Brenda finally settled in Oregon in 1978. She has held a National Certification in Dental Assisting since 1980 and also has an Expanded Functions Certification from the state of Oregon.
Lori has been part of our practice for 17 years, with 31 total years of dental office experience. As our resident “Jill-of-all-trades,” she rotates between assisting all three doctors, supporting our hygiene team and managing sterilization. Lori says she feels fortunate to work in a dental practice where patients are treated like family.
After moving from Arizona, Lori has called Oregon home for the past 38 years. She loves the Pacific Northwest, particularly the different seasons because there’s so much to do year-round. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends – both socializing and being active together outdoors. A fitness buff, Lori also loves running, biking and snow skiing.
Born and raised in Oregon, Karie is an expanded functions dental assistant who has been with our practice since 1999. With more than 25 years of experience under her belt, she says that her favorite parts of her job are working directly with patients, taking time to get to know them and helping to ensure they have an unparalleled dental experience.
A proponent of fair treatment of animals and conscious living, Karie enjoys a mostly vegan lifestyle. And away from the office she can often be found out running, socializing with friends, spending sunny days in her VW convertible or relaxing with her miniature dachshund, Zoe.
Chantel may be a newer face around our practice, but she’s certainly not new to the dental field. After graduating from Portland Community College Dental Assisting program in 1994, she took about nine years off to be a stay-at-home mom to her twin girls. While at home she continued her education, however, earning her associates degree and completing an internship for Early Childhood Education.
She is now a Certified Dental Assistant and holds certifications in expanded functions dental assisting, expanded functions orthodontic assisting, radiology and sealants. When she’s not in the office, Chantel enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and watching her daughters play competitive sports.
Born and raised in Aloha, Oregon, Kasteal has been a dental assistant for four years now, although she’s new to Mattson Hellickson Dental as of 2015. She loves what she does because she says it’s a career where she gets to challenge herself every day, along with being able to work with patients of all ages. Her warm nature and outgoing personality contribute to the comforting, positive environment she tries to create for every patient who enters the office.
In terms of interests outside of work, Kasteal’s favorite pastimes are anything having to do with being outdoors. Her favorite weekend activities include camping, going to lakes and rivers, baking and cooking, being with friends and family and hanging out with her three cats, Salem, Indigo and Lil’ Bit.
Nichoel draws on her previous work experience as a bank teller to keep things running smoothly as our Hygiene & Billing Coordinator. With a warm smile and sunny disposition, it’s no surprise that Nichoel hails from the Golden State, just outside Monterey Bay in Northern California.
After meeting her husband, she relocated to Oregon where they have laid down roots and are currently raising two energetic boys. Away from the office, she enjoys spending her free time with family and friends and is active in her local church. And from time to time you may even catch her at a Blazer game cheering on our home team.
Megan is usually the first person you see when you walk in our door, and she is always wearing a big smile ready to welcome you into our office. In her role, she educates patients about their treatment options. Her favorite part of the job is being able to answer questions to put people’s minds at ease – not only allowing them to feel more comfortable, but also so they’re excited about coming in to see the doctors.
Megan settled in Oregon in 2000 after moving around between Arizona and Southern California for the first part of her life. She attended middle and high school in Aloha and has since identified herself as a true Oregonian. In her free time, she enjoys being outside with her family (husband Mike, bonus daughter Isabella, and “crazy” Boston terrier, Daisy), volunteering at church and trying new recipes (or, according to her, “mostly just eating them”).
